Bruneau Drain Culvert Replacement – St. Andrews, Manitoba
Project Description
Full civil delivery of culvert replacement at the Bruneau Drain at Apache Trail — removal and installation of twin 1800 mm culverts to restore drainage capacity and mitigate spring flooding.
Project Overview
No Limits Underground completed the civil works for the replacement of two culverts at the Bruneau Drain crossing at Apache Trail in St. Andrews, Manitoba. The project was completed under winter conditions and required coordinated excavation, material handling, and installation to restore drainage functionality ahead of spring runoff.
Key Challenges
· Harsh winter conditions
· Deep frost excavations
Project Scope
· Excavation and removal of the existing roadway.
· Removal and disposal of collapsed culverts.
· Graded excavation within the drain corridor.
· Material hauling and stockpiling.
· Installation of two 1800 mm culverts.
· Granular backfill placement with compaction and density testing.
Solutions and Outcomes
Despite extreme cold temperatures and frozen ground conditions, NLU executed the work efficiently using a fleet of 20, 24, and 30-ton excavators, along with support equipment including a backhoe and skid steer. The culverts were successfully installed and backfilled to specification, restoring full drainage capacity and ensuring the site was prepared to handle spring runoff without delays.
